Hey foodies! Esquire Meals has done it again! Happy to be in the company of this awesome young man and fellow Gemini, Chef Kenneth Watson for another series of “dine.” Today’s Way back Wednesday edition will take you on a journey of greatness as we start off with the Dinner en Blanc style dinner with friends and ending with a kickback and smooth sounds at brunch. If you can remember foodies, I had the pleasure of attending “dine.” in November of 2017 and I had an amazing time! So much so that I had to come back for another event that was held this past April. Thanking the heavenly man above for the great weather we had in the DMV that weekend. Sunny skies and feeling the breeze, I ventured out to Baltimore for this spring’s installment.
Enjoying spirits from my girl Karmia, owner of Certified to Mix accompanied with pressed juices by Vegan Juiceolgy, cocktail hour began promptly at 7pm with dinner to follow. The bubbly and spirits were flowing while the hor d’oeuvres were being passed to kick off the night. I see a few familiar faces and some new ones too, but enough of that . . . let’s chat about the food! Prior to our arrival we had the option to choose from the following menu (T-Mac dinner options are highlighted below):
Mediterranean Crunch Salad
Watermelon Feta Salad over Microgreens
Smoked Salmon and Orzo Salad
Jerk Hen over Yellow Rice
My appetizer was so refreshing to my palate. Juicy and sweet watermelon, bright cheese and peppery greens. Funny I had chicken on my last visit and here I’m eating it again. The jerk hen was succulent with little spice. Not your typical spice level one would expect when eating “jerk;” nonetheless it was very good. I found myself ready to tear the chicken apart with my hands because my knife and fork was not kicking it for me (lol), but I had to remind myself that I’m not at home! I delicately enjoyed piece by piece trying not to leave any meat on the bone. The yellow rice was a great addition and I loved the hint of colorful peppers throughout to add texture.
Now on to dessert. This delightful, superb, decadent Strawberry Shortcake crafted by Dulce Sweet Bar and Bakery was light, fluffy and savory with every bite. Thanks for keeping my spirits up at the end of the night with this sweet treat! Remember . . . after the show it’s the after party. Time to drop it low and sip the night away. Last year I was the first to leave, but on this night I was the last to leave.
Rolled over to the Esquire Estates the next day as I was ready to feast on part 2 of this installment with “brunch.” Mimosa bar, bubbly, great food by Chef Kenneth and enjoying the sweet sounds of The Living Room Social. Dressed in our best pastels; let’s reminisce on the menu for “brunch.”:
Mexican Egg White Frittata Cups
Oven Roasted Breakfast Potatoes
This vibe was more laid back, relaxing, and a free for all if you will from the event the night before. I love brunch; especially potatoes, fruit and bacon . . . well in this case turkey bacon. I’m a PORK bacon eater myself; however a few healthy lean pieces of turkey won’t hurt either. I sat back and enjoyed the sweet sounds of The Living Room Social. Black Asset serenaded us with her soulful voice and original work. I truly appreciated that time to unwind before I got on the road back in DC.
I love the energy and professionalism that Chef Kenneth exudes. Always a pleasure to witness him and his amazing team put on an excellent event from beginning to end. It felt great to reunite with my peeps over excellent food, drinks, conversation and twerking! I left full, tipsy, happy and with trinkets. When the next series pops up . . . I plan to show up and show out!
