Calling all Wine-O’s! On Wednesday, November 29th, I had a few glasses of wine at the “Wine Down Lounge” by Julian Wines at the 201 Bar situated in Washington, DC’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. This is one of many happy hour series at the Wine Down Lounge where samples of wine and small bites are featured from your local happy hour hangout.
Greeted with a warm hello, it was such a delight to meet Myles in person. He has an infectious smile that will light up the entire room and he did just that the entire night! My wristband allowed me to sample the wines of the night: Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc (one red and white for my non-wine drinkers). The mood at the 201 Bar was very engaging as everyone socialized while enjoying small bites and samples throughout the evening.
Rich in flavors and subtle on the palate. This wine is dry and healthy (per the doctor) and needs to be drunk with food. I knew to only order one glass since I had no desires to eat while I was there. Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with a juicy cut of beef, preferably Ribeye if you ask me.
Bright, crisp, and not too sweet with some of tropical notes. A refreshing dry wine that has great aromas and a nice crisp pucker. Sauvignon Blanc pairs well with fish or cheese.
I’m not much of a wine drinker, however expanding my palate to know the proper pairings and what’s pleasing to my palate is important as a food blogger. When in the mood for wine I typically order Riesling or Pinot Grigio otherwise pour me a Tito’s Vodka Gimlet. I was most impressed with the Sauvignon Blanc. Its aromatics were off the charts! Elegant and bright!
