Last Monday, chat and chew was in full swing with my good good girlfriend at Modern Market! Great suggestion from her considering she would frequent Modern Market for lunch while working in the McPherson Square neighborhood in DC. Nothing makes us happier than food, so an invitation was extended for me to try this hidden gem and I must say it’s bursting with flavors!
Healthy dining with the calorie count to match; breakfast, lunch, and dinner can be found here. The menu includes waffles, breakfast plates, homemade soups, toasted sandwiches, brick oven pizzas, and vegan options too. Kids eat free after 5pm on Sunday’s and Monday’s, so parents be sure to enjoy beer and wine for happy hour starting at $3!
Please try the Merida Salad (romaine, roasted chicken, organic adzuki beans, roasted corn, pickled onion, organic blue corn strips, cotija, avocado, guajillo lime vinaigrette; half portion size) and the Ranch Steak Homestyle Plate (humanely raised, natural ranch steak, salsa verde) with mashed potatoes and arugula & blue cheese salad (pictured below). The steak is prepared medium and I’ve noticed that the cashier did not ask “How you would like the steak prepared.” I learned of this after ordering the Flatiron Salad from a previous visit. However, the meal was very, very tasty. The Merida Salad provides little toppings with the right amount of spice. I might ask for extra organic blue corn strips for the texture and crunch I’m seeking. The Roman Salad is a favorite of mine too, why, because it’s sprinkled with BACON! The Roman is Modern Market’s version of a “Caesar Salad.” The saltiness from the bacon and the smokiness from roasted grape tomatoes takes this leafy meal to new heights.
Naia is not new to this hidden gem and I’m most certain her tasty pork is worth the share . . .
“It was DELICIOUS! This was maybe my seventh-time dining at Modern Market, however, it was the first time I’d had anything besides a delicious salad or yummy pizza and I was not disappointed. The pork was tender, juicy with just the right hint of lemon flavor. I had the roasted veggies and an arugula salad for my sides. I told T-Mac I would go back just for a bowl of those veggies – they were AHMAZE! There was no blue cheese or arugula left on my plate so that should tell you how I felt about the salad! Last but not least . . . the $3 house red wine was the perfect liquid addition!! A complete and healthy meal with the option to make it happy hour for under $20 . . . sign me up every time!”
Fellow diners, please request for plastic drinking glasses and utensils if you plan to dine-in. Both wine glasses and eating utensils were very dirty! Don’t bother asking for hot water. Instead, request for plastic ware to avoid ruining your dining experience. Otherwise, if you’re traveling the streets of DC and would like to partake in healthy cost-effective eats, come to Modern Market and tell me them Fat Girl N’ Motion sent you!
